In September 2020, the European Commission published a comprehensive package of legislative proposals in the field of migration and asylum called the the new Pact on Asylum and Migration, which emphasizes the role of legal migration in building tailor-made partnerships with third countries. This paves the way for collaboration on programs that match the skills needs of a workforce with skills in line with labor market needs. At the same time, the development of legal routes should contribute to reducing illegal migration, which often leads to undeclared work and labor exploitation in the European Union.
An enhanced and comprehensive approach would enable cooperation with partner countries, which would contribute to strengthening mutually beneficial international mobility. Also, as a good example, the Republic of Croatia can point out the new Aliens Act, which entered into force at the beginning of this year, and ranks Croatia among the top 10 EU member states that have regulated the issue of so-called digital nomads, ie the possibility of obtaining a one-year residence permit for foreigners working remotely.
The interest of the Republic of Croatia in these new policies can be manifested through the arrival of young and talented people and the strengthening of digital services and industry. The conference is intended for the general public primarily young people, but also private companies that employ third-country nationals and local government representatives. The conference will be held via a digital platform or video stream. The Ministry of the Interior invites all interested stakeholders to register their participation in the conference "MIGRATION: Managing Migration with a Predictable, Balanced and Reliable System" by e-mail: KoBE@mup.hr by 20 September 2021.
