On 16 March 2023, Serbia joined the EMN and that represents an important step towards reinforced cooperation in the areas of migration and asylum

The European Commission and the Commission for Refugees of Serbia signed an Administrative Arrangement to collaborate in the European Migration Network, and make Serbia an Observer Country in the network.

Both sides agreed to exchange up-to-date, objective, reliable and comparable information on asylum and migration in Serbia and the EU Member States. The Administrative Arrangement is an important step towards reinforced cooperation and efficient exchange of information. The network’s goal is to meet the information needs of the EU institutions and of Member States’ authorities and institutions on migration, asylum and home affairs with a view to support policymaking. Serbia will contribute to the EMN’s objectives by attending all EMN meetings and contribute to EMN studies and reports.

The conclusion of the signature took place in the margins of the meeting between EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson, and Serbian Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Nataša Stanisavljević.
