A video conference of EU Foreign and Home Affairs Ministers on migration was held

On 15 March 2021, Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman participated in a joint informal videoconference of EU Ministers of Foreign and Internal Affairs on migration, with an emphasis on external aspects

Croatian ministers welcomed efforts to put the new Pact on Migration and Asylum in focus on linking migration issues to other EU policies and instruments.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Božinović supported the strengthening of cooperation with key third countries and welcomed the proposal to strengthen police cooperation with the aim of effectively combating smuggling networks and establishing the identity of migrants. He also supported better implementation of return procedures for migrants who do have the right to international protection and called for strengthening cooperation with third countries on legal migration as a regular way for employment opportunities and the acquisition of additional knowledge and skills.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Božinović emphasized that cooperation with the countries of Southeast Europe, especially with Bosnia and Herzegovina, remains the primary focus for Croatia.
