EMN Conference: “Challenges of Irregular Migration on the Eastern Mediterranean Route” will take place on 12 and 13 May 2020 in Zagreb, Croatia. The conference will be held in the framework of the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Conference will provide an opportunity for in-depth discussions on the challenges on the Eastern Mediterranean Route and try to suggest efficient and human rights compliant solutions for the future. The conference will also place the debate on the Eastern Mediterranean Route within a broader EU context, by discussing the challenges of irregular migration and migrant smuggling in the EU in general. It will have a prominent fundamental right component and will emphasize the obligation of the EU and Member States' authorities to respect fundamental rights of migrants while performing their daily duties connected with the control of the EU external borders.

The conference will provide a new impetus to finding practical solutions to these challenges by creating an open, friendly and intellectually challenging forum where eminent speakers from EU institutions, Member States and NGOs, as well as independent experts will share their knowledge and experience.

Information about the registration to the event and a detailed programme will follow soon.
