On 1 October 2020, a national EMN conference will be organized by EMN Luxembourg

Citizenship as a concept makes us think about a certain national identity, and emotions caused by belonging to this one identity. It also makes us think about civil and political engagement and rights. On the other hand, citizenship is a concept that divides society into those who have it and those who don’t have it. The choice of the conference topic stems from the one of the most recent studies of the European Migration Network“Pathways to citizenship for third-country nationals in EU Member States” which provides a comparative overview of the existing schemes framing access to national citizenship for third-country nationals across the Member States of the European Union. Besides that, the topic is directly linked to national debates and legislative changes in Luxembourg over the last few years, especially the new Luxembourgish nationality law of 8 March 2017.
