Annual Report on the Situation of Asylum in the EU in 2017
The European Asylum Support Office (EASO) Annual Report for 2017 on Asylum in the EU presents a comprehensive overview of the events both at European level and at the level of national asylum systems. Through the collected data, the report presents the main statistical developments and analysis of changes in EU+ countries (EU Member States + Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Lichtenstein) in the context of legislation, policy, practice and national case law.
Due to the record of a large number of important events during 2017, the Court of Justice of the European Union issued a number of judgments and analyzed in particular the question of the lawfulness of mass crossings of borders, the rights of asylum seekers with regard to the Dublin II Regulation and the applicable time limits, automatic transmission of responsibility in cases where no transfer was made, transfers of seriously ill asylum seekers, etc.
Also, questions were raised about requests to hold a hearing in appeal proceedings, right on hearing, exclusion from refugee status and the use of homosexuality testing in asylum procedures.
Furthermore, the report considers the events related to the continuation of the implementation of the European Migration Program with the support of EASO, international protection in the EU+ and the functioning of the common European asylum system through Eurostat statistical data.Full Report can be downloaded on the link below:
