On 10 February, 2022 an inform of the European Migration Network and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development on digitalization in migration management was published

Among the many questions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic was how to perform identity controls without exposing law enforcement and immigration services staff to health risks.
The vast majority of EU Member States and Georgia reported making use of online systems to process residence permits and citizenship applications, to allow applicants to make an appointment at immigration authorities or an embassy, with some Member States also offering more sophisticated digital services, such as making online applications and tracking progress remotely.
